About Us

Berthylis

Berthylis helps companies develop robust, production-ready electronic products, from concept to qualification. We support the complete PCBA lifecycle, including system architecture, PCB design, assembly support, testing, and EMC/ESD compliance. We combine analog, digital, RF, and mixed-signal design expertise with design for manufacturing, design for test, and EMC-aware design to ensure reliable performance and successful certification.

In addition to product electronics, we bring strong expertise in semiconductor test and validation, including evaluation and load board design, automated test development, hardware verification, and production data analysis. We also support automotive AEC-Q100 qualification and compliance testing, bridging the gap between silicon validation, product hardware, and production.

By connecting design, testing, qualification, and production, Berthylis helps customers reduce technical risk, shorten development cycles, and bring high-quality electronic products to market with confidence.

Founded and owned by Wim Pauwels, Berthylis is based in beautiful Westerlo, Belgium

About the Founder

Wim Pauwels is an independent electronics hardware engineer, consultant, and entrepreneur with more than 25 years of hands-on experience in electronic system design, PCB development, and semiconductor-related engineering.

Wim’s expertise spans the full product development lifecycle, from system architecture and feasibility studies to schematic design, complex multilayer PCB layout, embedded firmware, FPGA/ASIC development, production engineering, verification, testing, and compliance. He has extensive experience designing evaluation boards, test boards, and production hardware, as well as guiding products through qualification and compliance processes such as CE , EMC and AEC-Q100.
A significant part of his work involves testing and verification of semiconductors, including the development of evaluation and load boards, automated test systems, production test software, and data analysis. He has hands-on experience with RF, high-speed digital, and mixed-signal measurements, and regularly cooperates with accredited test houses to guide products through EMC and compliance testing.

Before founding Berthylis in 2011, Wim held key engineering and management roles in both product companies and consultancy environments. He served as Branch Manager and senior PCB/layout engineer at Quality Products International (QPI), where he built and managed the Belgian branch while delivering advanced PCB designs for clients such as Barco, Philips, Niko, and Option. Earlier in his career, he worked as an embedded hardware and software engineer at Venne Electronics, as a consultant for Philips, and in industrial automation at Atos Engineering, contributing to motion control systems, measurement equipment, and embedded controllers.

His technical background spans digital, analog, RF, and power electronics, as well as embedded firmware, FPGA and ASIC development and 3D design. This broad system-level perspective allows him to design electronics that are practical, testable, and manufacturable. Supported by his own fully equipped electronics laboratory and 3D printer, he bridges the gap between theory, design, testing, and real-world production.

In his free time, Wim is active in radio-controlled glider flying and participates in the national F3Q competition (www.f3q.be), a discipline that combines aerodynamics, precision, and technical optimisation. He also likes going on nature hikes with his dog and enjoying the activities of his three children.
